PROPOSED COURSE: "Yacht & Small Commercial Craft Engineering"

Description: Most of us have collected a hodge-podge of mechanical, civil, aerospace, and/or structural reference books. Their pages are tagged with the relatively few actual boat examples, with other pages flagged that are “close enough” to explaining the formulas we need. It’s easy to find shear area and breaking load for bolts in a deck cleat, but where are the formulas for cleat loads that are industry acceptable and/or defensible in court? And what line-size matches up? Isn’t it time that we had a Yacht Engineering Reference Manual for Designers, Boatbuilders, Plan Reviewers, and Students of Naval Architecture? In this course, Bruce Marek will present the material that will eventually find its way into such a manual, and you will have the opportunity to review each chapter, discuss it with the author, and complete a series of exercises to increase your knowledge and comprehension. Subject matter will cover calculating areas, moments of inertia, section moduli, and volume and buoyancy calculations. Additional topics will include hull loads, composite materials, fastening wood components, mast design, hydraulic and electric-over-hydraulic steering systems, basic commercial-craft electrical systems, and basic hydraulic and piping systems.

Note: REGISTRATION FEES FOR THIS COURSE ARE YET TO BE DETERMINED. WHILE IT IS FREE FOR YOU TO PRE-REGISTER, THE ACTUAL COURSE WILL NOT BE FREE!
